| INDEX FUTURES |
A Derivative is an instrument whose value is derived from the value of one or more underlying assets. Derivatives have very many uses ranging from risk-management, hedging and leveraging to providing liquidity in the markets.
The first derivative instrument to appear in the Indian financial markets is "Index Futures". An "Index Future" is simply an agreement to buy or sell a specified quantity of a certain index (say Sensex or NSE-Nifty) at a definite price on a specified future date. Walletwatch seeks to equip its browsers with the nuances of it, through a series of lucid articles by the experts in the industry.
